There was a chance back in April of 2022 for Zelensky to sit down and negotiate for peace and stop a war he had ZERO chance of winning. I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends.
Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie. The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless.
There is no such thing as Ukraine “winning” this war. By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone.
Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail.
In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men.
The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service.
Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is “a death sentence.”
It’s getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines. Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.
The territory celebrated as having been “won back” from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return.
They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It’s a “joke” and “propaganda.” They say: “Look around: is this winning?”. Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”. There is no ambiguity in these people.
The war was for nothing – a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare. They are pleading for an end, any end – most likely the same “peace” that could have been achieved two years ago. In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no “victory” that can change that.
Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West. They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelenky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.
I didn’t witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking. Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

The companies seeking handouts will almost ALWAYS get the upper hand on the economic development clowns for a few reasons:
1 – The economic development clowns have generally NEVER run a business (Misti Talbert) and many have never (or barely) even worked in the private sector (Stacey Ybarra, Ryan Ward, Finley deGraffenreid). They are like lambs to the slaughter against a cut-throat owner of a business.
2 – The information about the business will always be asymmetrical. That is, the owners and CEOs have a MUCH better knowledge of the businesses prospects going forward than the economic development clowns will ever have.

What a spoiled little asshole. After I graduated college, I shared an apartment with THREE other slobs for the next four years to save money. I slept on a mattress on the floor because I didn’t see the point in wasting money on a bed. I drove an ’86 Honda Accord for over 14 years. We split the cable, electric and phone bills (no cell phones back then) four ways also. It saves a TON of money.

On 22 December 1978, Caldwell had a private audience with Pol Pot. Just a few hours later, one hour past midnight, the Scottish intellectual was shot dead in his room.
What did he say to Pol Pot, who did he insult, what terrible faux-pas did the Khmer Rouge’s biggest Western fanboy make? We’ll never know. But it definitely a happy ending to this story!
A history lesson of where the desire for free stuff and equity will lead us to.
The backbone of Mao’s revolution was the Chinese peasants who believed that they would get free land and be made equal.
Free stuff! Equity! Social justice! Sound familiar?
They indeed were able to confiscate the land from landlords and divided it equally among themselves through the brutal Land Reform (1949-1952) which led to the death of more than 2 million landlords.
But within a few years, new “inequality” emerged. Some people were doing better than others. Who would guess it! Some people are just born losers and they are the types clamoring for socialism…
No worries. There was a solution: collectivization. This time the CCP will make everyone absolutely equal. Collective farming started as “voluntary” option. Guess who were the ones strongly supporting it? Those who did not do as well their neighbors!
Eventually all peasants were forced to be collectivized into people’s communes. The land and all means of production now belonged to the PEOPLE (aka the STATE), they were told.
The result? THREE YEARS of the Great Famine (1959-1961) which killed up to 50 million peasants.
Socialism has always led to the death of millions of people in whatever country it was attempted. It is led by cynics who exploit the envy of the people who simply don’t measure up at the expense of the successful. So it ends up being a death spiral, literally. Once you believe success comes from dishonesty vs expertise, you are done.
Soviet Russia had a similar experience to China. The collectivization of farming in Russia let to the Ukrainian Holodomor in the 1930’s. It caused the death of millions of Ukrainian people due to starvation.
Socialism is directly opposed to human nature, and therefore can never be achieved without force and the resulting death of many. Socialism can only be implemented through tyranny and oppression.
As Mao said, “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun”. He had good reasons for making such a statement.
