City and LEDC Refuse To Divulge Current Business Pork ‘Prospect’…AGAIN.

I tells ya – it’s like déjà vu all over again!

I have noticed over the last couple months there is a “business park prospect” mentioned in the agendas and packets. Lots of “executive sessions” to discuss “incentives” (free money) for this mystery prospect.

I asked for just the NAME of this prospect. Not financials. Not proprietary information. Not terms of any deals. Not trade secrets. Absolutely NOTHING but the name.

Guess what?

“Yes I did receive your request, unfortunately it is not that simple. I have reached out to the City Attorney on whether or not the name of the prospect can be released at this time. I will be in touch.”

This is ridiculous on many levels. One level of ridiculousness is that the LEDC used to LOUDLY trumpet and blather about their prospects. Even the WHISPER of a possible prospect was splashed loudly in the minutes, in the newspaper and everywhere else.

Mike Irvin’s 5,000 sq ft Steel Fabrication Shop in the “Business Park” (2018)

A “prospect out of Abilene” interested in relocating their business to Lampasas but they “can’t give out details yet” (2018).

But NOW, they can’t even give me a name!

I’m guessing that it ISN’T one of the prospects they coughed up over a year ago, or they wouldn’t be making a big secret of it. After all, they already TOLD me last February.

Those prospects were: Lawson Implements, PhoLicious (now gone to Houston), Legacy Awning and Shade, Nextlink Internet (already has killer location on 580 E) and Eco-Flex Recycled Rubber (who ALREADY screwed over the City once with their lies a couple years ago).

The LEDC also doesn’t seem to have a problem blabbing about other businesses about to enter the City right now – like HTeaO (old Chinese Buffet building) or Anytime Fitness (4th Street).

I’m going to go ahead and predict that my old buddy J.C. Brown denies me this information…thus keeping taxpayers in the dark YET AGAIN about the “goat pasture” they have shelled out over $7.1 million dollars for so far.

“Cheap” Renewable Energy Increases Cost of Electricity.

California’s headlong rush to replace its electricity grid with renewable energy has given the rest of the country a preview of the decarbonized future that President Biden and his revived Clean Power Plan envision for America. It isn’t pretty.

Before supply-chain woes and federal stimulus goosed inflation, California’s cost of living already ranked second highest in the nation. Enthusiastic efforts to rely more heavily on wind and solar power—touted as “cheap” sources of clean energy—have only made the state more expensive.

In 2015, President Obama imposed his Clean Power Plan to replace all coal-fired power plants with natural gas-fired plants and renewable energy. California said, “hold my beer” and passed its own Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act with even more ambitious decarbonization targets. To meet those targets, the state issued overzealous, poorly planned regulations that increased in-state electricity generation from wind and solar farms by over twenty thousand gigawatt hours per year. Wind and solar power now account for a quarter of California’s energy supply.

California and clean energy seem like a natural fit. The state’s sunny coastlines, bright deserts, windy mountain passes, and deep river valleys should offer bountiful sources of cheap, all-natural solar, wind, and hydropower. Unfortunately, they don’t. Nightfall, droughts, and windless days take these renewable power sources offline. And when intermittent clean energy sources cannot keep up with demand,California power providers turn to natural gas and electricity imports that backstop the state’s grid, but which are now more expensive due to the insufficient storage and pipeline capacity created by the idealized rush to “cheap” clean energy.

Inefficient energy markets, unpredictable price spikes, unreliable power sources, and a hostile regulatory environmenthave all contributed to a 40 percent increase in the average California electric bill over the last five years. Retirees, low-income households, and middle-class families bear the brunt of the higher prices. Millions of Californians now stretch their already strained budgets just to cover food, fuel, shelter, and an ever-rising electricity bill.

President Biden’s new clean power proposal for a pollution-free power sector by 2035 threatens to make this California experience one that every state may soon enjoy. Under the president’s plan, natural gas has virtually no future in America. California and the rest of the country will be forced to replace natural gas power plants with renewable sources that will make electricity production unreliable and therefore more expensive.

California’s climate and geography make it more suited to a clean energy grid than any other state, but even California must rely on natural gas to keep the lights on. That does not bode well for Ohio and other cloudy states. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Ohio sees 63-77 sunny days per year. Michigan fares worse with only 65-75 clear days a year. California, on the other hand, sees the sun 146 days a year on average, second only to Arizona.

Higher electric bills will also cost California and Ohio 10,000 jobs each by 2035, as businesses cut payrolls to offset the added expense and slower growth. But California has three and a half times as many workers, making that blow not nearly as severe.

Despite their advocates’ urgent claims, renewable energy sources are still intermittent, unreliable, and far more expensive than advertised.

Tries to tell us that Biden and Walensky never said the vaccine would stop Covid from spreading or prevent symptoms and death – even though there are STILL videos of them saying EXACTLY THAT on the Internet to this day!

The same has happened with the massive inflation that Biden’s moronic policies and spending have unleashed. They cannot understand cause and effect. Lampasas Sales Tax Receipts UP 10.2% Over Last March. State of Texas UP 12.8%

I have to admit, I am shocked these numbers continue to climb like this. A combination of inflation and libtards flooding our state keeps sales taxes going higher.

Lampasas trailed the state as a whole by 2.6 percentage points – an improvement over last month’s 6.2% gap.

LAST year, Lampasas saw an 18% increase [see row 585] in March 2022 compared to March 2021 – so quite a drop off from last year. The state of Texas saw a 28% increases last March compared to 2021.

Year-to-date, the City has collected $955,726 compared to $887,774 for the same period last year – an increase of 7.6% (roughly in line with inflation, I might add).

Now that Wool & Vine has gone bust, I guess we’ll see these sales tax numbers drop even more precipitously next month, right? LOL.

Industrial Park Plans Off To Very Slow Start. Plus It Looks Like They Are Already Breaking The Agreement

Well, it was supposed to be storage for “50 RVs and boats” but it looks more like “three shitty trailers”….

Not much progress for a project that supposedly started “on or about January 20th, 2023” according to the agreement.

ALSO according to the agreement:

4.07 (1) Lessee will store ONLY RVs and boats that are fully operational and have/display current State of Texas registrations.

4.07 (3) Lessee shall not store any other equipment, vehicles, items, trash, partial vehicles, TRAILERS or materials on the Leased Premises other than the operational and registered RVs and boats noted in item (1) above.

Oops.
