I have seen a LOT of bitching about$400 and $500 power bills on Facebook. Now imagine your bill was $2000 or $2500 or $3,000 for a single month. Because THAT is what Germany is facing. They are literally turning to chopping down trees so they can stay warm this winter, because moron greenies have shut down the nukes and fossil fuel power plants. They are taking cold showers because they can’t afford to heat their water.

After seeing sales taxes plunge about 8% last month, I wondered out loud if the top was in. If the never-ending money train was about to come to a screeching halt. The U.S. is officially in recession, after all.
Nope. UP 11% for July.
So where was the error in my thinking?
Also, the latest CPI number was UP about 8.5% YoY and we know that number is pretty much bullshit as the reality is much higher. If you use the CPI formula from the 1980s, inflation is more like 12% to 15%. So to see our sales tax receipts UP 11% YoY is pretty much in line with that.
So I guess the REAL question is how the hell sales tax numbers for JUNE actually DROPPED 8%?? That is a huge move and clearly a big outlier now. I need to go back and see the actual numbers from last year. Was last June a huge outlier to the upside or was this June way down for some reason?
Although I am eating crow right now, I stand by my assertion that Spring Ho had nothing to do with the most recent sales tax increase – because we also had Spring Ho last year, and I highly doubt that approximately $330,000 more (8% of $330k = the $26,000 increase between last July and this July) dollars were spent this Spring Ho versus last year. It is purely due to inflation – especially in the gasoline area – which is UP 20% over last July.
Only thing to do now is try and find details on the 8% drop in June 2022 and see what caused it. I have no clue what it could be.
**UPDATE #2 – 9/9/22 **
Looking at last June’s $252,670, it looks high compared to the months around it. Why was June about $20k high last year? Hell if I know. All seasonal effects should be accounted for as these are always YoY comparisons. Maybe everyone bought a shit ton of repair hardware after the Freeze of the Century last year? Simultaneously, this June’s numbers look kinda low by about $10,000 compared to surrounding months. Economic slowdown?
So it looks like a bit of both: slightly higher than normal last year and slightly lower this year. But July of THIS year rebounded strong in a MoM comparison while July of 2021 saw a big DROP MoM compared to June 2021.
So what I did was combine months into two-month blocks to smooth things out a bit to see if there are any clues as to where receipts may be heading. Here are the results:
May/June 2021 versus May/June 2022 – the increase is only 1.3% YoY ($465k versus $471k)
June/July 2021 versus June/July 2022 – the increase is only 1.5% YoY ($490k versus $497k)
July/Aug 2021 versus July/Aug 2022 – the increase is 11.5% (461k versus $513k) – receipts have picked back up. Increase for Texas as a whole was 13% YoY for August.
Contrast that to earlier in the year:
I compared March/April 2021 with March/April 2022 and the increase was significant: $403,000 versus $444,000 or a TEN PERCENT increase YoY – which is more in line with “official” inflation.
Then I moved to the April/May combined month comparisons. We see it slow a bit to 8% YoY ($459k versus $496k).
So as we move down the calendar from March/April and compare two-month blocks of receipts, we see: up 10%, up 8%, up 1.3%, up 1.5% and up 11.5%
Slowdown has disappeared – back to double digit increases.

Something else in this month’s packet struck me as hilarious. They are concentrating on three tracts with the current millions they are wasting:
None of those tracts is over 4 acres [see pages 28 – 30]. Tract 10 is only 4 acres. Tracts 11 and 12 are 3.5 acres each.
But the City ALREADY owns an “Industrial Park” which is larger than all of those tracts. It is 5.56 acres and they STILL have not been able to fill it! Supposedly Martin Rod & Custom is going to “do a deal” with the City, but that nonsense started almost 10 months ago and there is STILL no deal.
So if you can’t get a tenant for 5.6 acres, how are you going to get a tenant for those 3.5 and 4-acre plots?
I guess it’s best not to ask those simple questions. Just let the LEDC keep flushing millions down the toilet. I’m sure someone will eventually show up!

Property taxes: yes Bruce – they suck. We agree on that. Of course, they go up and up and up because idiots like yourself and Clayton Tucker demand “free” stuff at the schools like three meals a day and endless laptops for everybody. You also demand teachers (and cops) get paid a lot more and have smaller classes. All of that costs a LOT of money – and a BIG chunk comes out of your property taxes. So fuck you. You brought that on yourself.
Bruce REALLY hates those property taxes because he can’t avoid them, like he does with federal income taxes – which he admits he hasn’t paid in 23 years….
You see, Bruce is a parasite. He doesn’t work at the ripe old age of 58. There is no way in hell this is because he retired early due to brains and a successful business. I’m betting it’s because he gets checks from the government. I’m guessing he claims he is “disabled”. In my book, being 200 pounds overweight isn’t an actual disability. It’s proof you’re a gluttonous slob who lacks willpower.
Here is a typical day for Bruce the Parasite: he stays up until 2am posting anti-Trump crap and pro-Beto crap on Facebook while yelling to himself and sputtering saliva all over his own face. This is called “cardio” in Bruce’s house. Then he sleeps until about noon the next day. Then he gets up, eats a big pile of Whattaburger and starts all over again….
Sometimes he switches it up and pours gallons of butter down his gullet at Krab Kingz – his other favorite….
I imagine he just sits all day in a giant La-Z-Boy recliner covered in a plastic liner while he sweats buttery pig grease all over himself, smelling of old lady piss while lounging in his crusty yellow underwear. What a fucking loser….and you and I pay for it.
Electricity bills: Bruce is a massive hypocrite here. Bruce LOVES solar and windmills – the VERY TWO THINGS that are making the grid unstable and require us to spend MORE and MORE money to build RELIABLE power plants powered by natural gas and oil. Hell, just TWO DAYS ago, the wind was essentially ZERO and provided less than ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT (.004) of the day’s electricity.
On those days, fossil fuels save the day – that means money. Of course, dipshit Bruce never even has to worry about his power going out because he is on a grid with a hospital, according to him. So on those days when power is tight (thanks to greentarded policies pushed by Bruce himself) he is sitting there with his AC on full blast and his pool pump running all day while other people suffer for his stupidity.
Bonus hypocrisy: Bruce the Manatee doesn’t even have solar on his own house!!! What a piece of shit, eh?
Internet bills: more bullshit from the parasite. Internet has gotten WAY cheaper thanks to competition and the arrival of Nextlink – which BRUCE HIMSELF admits he has. It is less than $100 a month and has very good speeds. Any increases in OTHER Internet prices is because morons like Bruce and Clayton Tucker demand that Internet is a RIGHT and everybody should get it free or subsidized – which means the rest of us pay for the freeloaders.

Phone bill: see the above argument about Internet. All those “Obama phones” and other “free stuff” we hand to freeloaders and bums? The rest of us pay for it. It works the same way as the hospitals. Notes from the latest (8/8/22) City council meeting regarding the budget:
“Salaries will see a 7.4% increase over current budget“– according to City manager Finley deGraffenreid [56 minute mark].
In 2013, total City salaries were approximately $3.9 million [see packet] . In the current budget being discussed, salaries are approximately $7.3 million. This implies a compound annual growth rate of 7.2% per year.
Inflation during that period averaged 2.7%. Therefore, salaries have risen 166% faster than inflation (i.e. 2.6 times faster). There IS and WAS no need for a COLA last month. Employees are ALREADY being compensated far faster than inflation. This is indisputable math. Population growth in Lampasas was negligible at less than 1% per annum.
The retirement plan for the City employees is with the Texas Municipal Retirement System “TMRS”. The employees contribute seven percent (7%) and the City matches at roughly a TWO TO ONE ratio. So the City contributes roughly $14,000 for every $7,000 put in by an employee.
That is REAL money – paid for by YOU.
In 2013, the City contribution rate was 15.21% and carried an annual cost of $661,884. The CURRENT City contribution rate is 16% and carries an annual cost of over $930,000. The City is now close to paying out one million dollars per year just in matching retirement contributions at 2-1.
In 2016, City salaries and benefits made up 28% of the City budget (20% salaries and 8% benefits).
In current budget, salaries and benefits eat up 30% of budget.
Is it Police Chief Cummings? Mayor Thelma Jean? Randy “Speedbump” Clarke? ‘Doctor’ Chane Rascoe?
Let’s look at the conflicting information given in the SAME ARTICLE today in the Lampasas Dispatch:
Statement #1: “Police Chief Jody Cummings said Lampasas Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Chane Rascoe began discussions about adding SROs immediately after the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.
[Makes it sound like Rascoe is on the ball and immediately dealing with this. Although in my opinion, there isn’t much to deal with. Uvalde fucked up badly. Not us.]
Statement #2: “Councilman Randy Clark expressed his frustration that the discussion was occurring so late in the budget process. “This is last minute… I’m very disappointed about that,” he said. “I’m disappointed that no one is here from the schools”.
Statement #3: [transcript from council video – go to 33:00 mark, as I said days ago] “Mayor TJ Monroe agreed. ‘I think I feel the frustration of all the council,’ she said, adding that the council previously held a special session to discuss the state of the police department and school security.
[This meeting was JUST with Cummings, according to video of 8/8/22 meeting]
“THAT was the point for the school district to say what they needed,but they didn’t come forward,” Monroe said. “We’ve spent the summer working on what we thought was a balanced budget, and now they’ve thrown what could be $300,000 to $400,000 into our budget.”
So in statements #2 and #3 (in the SAME ARTICLE) Thelma and Speedbump are saying the opposite: that Chane and the LISD didn’t make a peep until just recently and are going to blow a $400,000 hole in the budget.
This is typical of City council, of course. Making massive expenditures in a big fat hurry with little to no deliberation. It just so happens this was the ONE time it wasn’t really their fault. Sounds like it was Chane Rascoe’s fault. Or perhaps Chief Cummings never relayed the message after he supposedly met with Chane “immediately after” Uvalde.
Somebody dropped the ball. Of course, we will NEVER hear that admitted (kinda like the skate park fiasco). Instead, the taxpayer just gets soaked to “fix” everything (also like the skate park!).

The City just voted to waste spend $35,300 to STUDY drainage issues on Fairview Drive – see page 2, Item 7.4 – near the Stone Valley subdivision.
Yes, that would ALSO be the same Stone Valley built by Deorald Finney who was handed $72,000 in ‘free’ electrical hookups by Misti Talbert.
Oddly, in addition to the $72,000 in ‘free’ hookups, Finney was ALSO handed $33,324 in tax dollars “for drainage improvements his contractor will make on Westridge Place…” [see page 10 in Lampasas Dispatch].
So lemme get this straight. The City hands Deorald $33,324 to “improve drainage on Westridge”. NOW there are drainage issues on Fairview – which is literally less than two blocks over.
Gee. I wonder if the two are related! Zac Morris was the only council member to even question this massive expense for a STUDY. The other braindead council members like Williamson, Monroe and Kuehne just whipped out their rubber stamps and wrote the checks.
