Today’s Dispatch article shows the stark difference between the free market and a bunch of government nitwits running in circles for the last twenty-two years.
New developments take shape on Fourth Street
As far as I know, the City has never given Irvin a dime of taxpayer money, and look at all the shit he’s done in the last three or four years. Here are some excerpts:
His building facing south at the corner of East Fourth and Briggs Street will include 12,000 square feet of finished space. Irvin said he is seeking users for the building, including those interested in operating an eatery.
Irvin is particularly excited about the strip construction, which may become the home to future law offices and medical care providers. Irvin said he is looking for five different users for the facility.
His last big project in Lampasas was construction of the Marketplace shopping center off U.S. Highway 281 along Sulphur Creek. Irvin believes the new strip center will be even more attractive, and working on the Fourth Street projects simultaneously will be more cost-effective.
So, just to recap:
LEDC – will have spent over $7.1 million and 22 years on their “business park” project. They are currently paying Stacey Ybarra $85,000 PLUS bennies to try and find tenants for the park. Number of businesses in park since this fiasco started 22 years ago? Zero.
“Mighty” Mike Irvin – spends his OWN money over the last four years or so and has already created spaces for MANY businesses.
