City Council Meets Tonight – The Many Challenges City Faces In 2024

City council meets for the first time of the year tonight. Here are some of the challenges and disasters that await them in 2024:

Hostess House debacle. This was originally budgeted at $200,000 but the project has ballooned up to over $2.1 million. Bids came in much higher, and the entire fiasco has to be reworked.

Business Pork debacle. Hard to believe that next month will be the two-year anniversary of the Misti Talbert Valentine’s Day Begging, but it is. That’s when she pilfered $971,000 for her Business Pork project. A project that STILL sits empty with little hope of seeing a tenant any time soon. May of this year will mark 20 years of failure and well north of $7.3 million wasted.

Industrial Park debacle. The fairy-tale pipe dream of vocational schools and food trucks is crashing down as I predicted many times. The City blew $45,000 of YOUR money on this ($38,000 to clear concrete and $7,000 to hack City attorney JC Brown) in order to satisfy Martin’s Rod and their ridiculous plans. The next deadline is a mere 23 days away and they must make a decision on whether to purchase the property – despite “Phase I” being an unmitigated disaster.

Brodie Estates failure to abide by agreement. The question remains of what penalty S2M2 will see for not even coming CLOSE to fulfilling their end of the horrible agreement Misti Talbert made with them when she handed over $185,000 of taxpayer monies. They had 4 years to build 22 houses. They have only built 7. They have also failed to file annual progress reports as required by their signed agreement.
