To manufacture ONE EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for the copper.
Accumulated, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for one battery. Career politicians have never thought about where the energy comes from to charge those batteries. Apparently that is done by magic wands, they charge out of the blue.
Lithium brines typically contain less than 0.1% lithium, so that entails some 25,000 pounds of brines to get the 25 pounds of pure lithium needed to fabricate a single battery.
Storing the energy equivalent of one barrel of oil, which weighs 300 pounds and costs $81.00 requires 20,000 pounds of EV batteries that cost $200,000.
Now imagine how much mining we have to do in order make 20,000 pounds of battery.
Many people think “green energy” drops out of a unicorns ass. It doesn’t, it takes a great deal of mining. If it wasn’t for TRECs, RECs, ROCs or simply Green Certificates (your tax dollars) “green” would never be made.
